Tower Displacement Monitoring Device: Using Sensors to “Detect” Every Millimeter of Displacement

Author: Visits:2 Date:2026-10-22

Tower displacement poses a serious hazard to power lines; what may seem like a minor shift can, in fact, gradually undermine the balance and stability of the transmission line.

As the core support structures of power transmission lines, the fixed positioning of transmission towers is essential for the normal operation of the lines. Any displacement—even a shift of just a few centimeters—will alter the tension and sag of the conductors. At best, this can cause the conductors to become slack or taut, leading to collisions with nearby trees or buildings, triggering short circuits and circuit breaker trips, and resulting in localized power outages; at worst, it can cause conductor joints to loosen or break, or even snap insulators, rendering the line inoperable.

What’s more dangerous is that tower displacement is often caused by factors such as geological subsidence, landslides, and erosion from heavy rains. Once displaced, the stability of the towers is significantly reduced, making them highly prone to tilting, cracking, or even complete collapse. A tower collapse can pull on surrounding power lines, causing widespread power outages that not only damage a large amount of power equipment but also increase the difficulty and cost of emergency repairs.

In addition, tower displacement is often concealed, making it difficult to detect initial shifts through manual inspections. By the time obvious faults appear, the hidden hazard has already reached a severe stage, significantly increasing the difficulty of remediation, further exacerbating accident losses, and posing a major challenge to the safe operation of the power grid. To address this O&M pain point of tower displacement, Dingxin Smart Technology has developed a targeted solution—the Tower Displacement Condition Monitor DX-WPS100-QJ. By leveraging technology to overcome the limitations of manual inspections, it provides 24/7 comprehensive protection for transmission line safety. Its four core advantages directly address industry pain points, ensuring that tower displacement has nowhere to hide.

I. Precise Data Collection for a Comprehensive Understanding of Tower Conditions

The device is equipped with a high-precision tilt sensor that collects real-time data on the tower’s longitudinal and lateral tilt angles, as well as comprehensive tilt data. It simultaneously captures power performance parameters—such as power supply voltage and battery charge percentage—along with the communication signal strength at the device’s location. It supports both automatic and controlled data collection modes, with collection intervals that can be flexibly set according to user needs—as short as 5 minutes (default: 30 minutes)—ensuring that every subtle deviation is accurately captured and no potential hazard is overlooked.

II. Secure Storage, Authentic and Traceable Data

With exceptional data storage capacity, it can continuously store at least 90 days of monitoring data, ensuring that data is properly retained even if the main station is unable to upload data due to communication issues. What’s more, data security is maximized: recorded dynamic data will not be lost or deleted due to power outages, voltage fluctuations, or external access, and manual modification or deletion is not permitted. This provides a complete, authentic, and reliable basis for analyzing potential hazards and tracing the root causes of malfunctions.

III. Intelligent Early Warning, Immediate Response to Anomalies

Equipped with built-in multi-level alarm mechanisms, the system can accurately detect various anomalies—such as data exceeding thresholds, device malfunctions, and communication interruptions—and alarm thresholds can be customized according to actual needs. Alarm notifications clearly distinguish between different types of anomalies and are transmitted remotely in real time. The monitoring center can intuitively display tower tilt data in both numerical and graphical formats, allowing operations and maintenance personnel to receive early warnings immediately, swiftly initiate emergency response measures, and nip potential hazards in the bud.

IV. Stable Power Supply, Easily Adaptable to Complex Environments

This power supply solution combines an energy harvesting unit, a battery, and a controller, and is equipped with a dedicated charge/discharge controller. It operates at a nominal voltage of +12 V DC and features automatic float charging, overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent protection, as well as temperature compensation. Even under extreme conditions—such as prolonged absence of sunlight and no other power sources—the battery can sustain normal device operation for 15 days, making it ideally suited for complex outdoor environments such as mountainous regions and wilderness areas, and completely resolving the challenge of power supply in the field.

In addition, the equipment transmits the collected data—after analyzing and encoding it—in real time to the monitoring center via 4G/5G/Wi-Fi wireless networks and dedicated power grid networks. This enables remote, visual monitoring of tower conditions, completely transforming the “reactive” nature of traditional manual inspections into a system of “proactive early warning and precise response,” thereby preventing major power accidents—such as tower collapses and line breaks—at their source.
